RECKYA MADOUGOU : INCARCÉRATION HUMILIANTE ET SANS FONDEMENT

Malgré la dénonciation par plusieurs associations de la détérioration des droits humains dans ce pays, la détention de Reckya Madougou n'est pas un cas isolé de détenu d'opinion. Un juge de la CRIET a dû fuir le Bénin pour avoir déclaré que l’arrestation et l’incarcération de Madame Madougou avaient été demandées par le pouvoir en place.

La demande de remise en liberté déposée par ses avocats le 12 juillet dernier a été rejetée par le magistrat instructeur, arguant de la nécessité de procéder à d’autres interrogatoires et confrontations…

Mario Stasi : « Absolument rien, que ce soit dans le dossier d’instruction, ou que ce soit l’existence de garanties de représentation évidentes, ne vient justifier cette détention, au surplus humiliante ; le traitement judiciaire de Madame Madougou est indigne d’une démocratie ! »

A propos de RECKYA MADOUGOU : Reckya Madougou est une figure emblématique du combat pour la paix et la démocratie au Bénin. Ancienne garde des sceaux, et ministre de 2008 à 2013, elle s’est fait connaître en initiant la campagne « Touche pas à ma constitution », qui a contribué à une transition pacifique du pouvoir en 2006. Devenue par la suite consultante internationale auprès de gouvernements africains, elle a été récompensée de nombreuses distinctions, tel que le Woman of Courage award décerné par le Département d’Etat américain.

RECKYA MADOUGOU: HUMILIATING AND UNFOUNDED INCARCERATION

Despite the grievances put forward by several associations on the deterioration of human rights in Benin, the detention of Reckya Madougou is not a standalone case of prisoner of conscience. Notably, one judge of the CRIET had to escape Benin for having declared that the arrest and incarceration of Mrs. Madougou were commissioned by the established power.

The request for her release filed by her lawyers on July 12^th has been rejected by the investigating magistrate on the grounds that proceeding to further interrogatories and confrontations was necessary…

Mario Stasi: “Absolutely nothing, whether it is inside the investigation file, or the existence of guarantees of legal representation, justifies this detention, extremely humiliating, the judicial treatment of Mrs. Madougou is unworthy of a so-called democracy!”

On Reckya Madougou: Reckya Madougou is an emblematic figure in the continuing struggle for peace and democracy in Benin. Former Minister of Justice from 2008 to 2013, she made herself known by initiating the campaign: ‘Touche pas à ma constitution’, that contributed to a pacific power transition in 2006.
